Do I need to see a gynecologist every year?
YES, Regardless of your age, it is best to have an annual exam every year.
In light of recent reports in the news, the recommendations for annual exams may be confusing. (In the last several years HPV (human papillomavirus) testing has become part of routine testing/screening for pre-cancer/cancer of the cervix. The addition of HPV testing has made the Pap smear (or Pap test) more accurate. So, the interval between Pap smears can be more than a year – BUT the American College of OB/GYN still recommends an annual pelvic and breast exam, with or without a pap smear.
